Velda's Varieties

All of the fuss of getting new windows and insulation is beginning to wear
on me. It wasn't so much the "mess" of installation, because there
wasn't much mess, but just a bunch of decisions to be made and the moving
of my "Stuff". I am not a person who moves the furniture around
but I decided I would like to have the TV on the other side of the room.
That forced the sofa to be moved to the opposite side of the room as well.
After that, nothing was sacred-everything was on the move. I'm still not
completely happy with the arrangement and wonder if I will ever get comfortable
in my "nest". The carpenters were kind enough to volunteer to
move the TV, the lead-in wire, a table, and the sofa. But how many times
did they want to do that???
Someone suggested that if I left the TV in that corner that I need an entertainment
center that just fit the corner. That was a good idea, so one day Jean and
I set off to look for corner entertainment centers. I stated that I didn't
want one that had to be put together and I didn't want one that was so high
it would force the removal of a corner shelf. Driving to Boone and then
later to Altoona, I finally located something priced right and just what
I wanted. However, it had to be put together and was about two inches higher
than I wanted, so the shelf would have to be removed. Rising to Jean's challenge:
WE CAN DO THIS! I purchases the unit. I'm not good at putting things together,
as Jean can tell you, I don't read instructions. But there is more than
one way to skin a cat, I invited Jean and my daughter in law, Beth, for
Sunday pot-roast dinner and a "put together party". Both Jean
and Beth thought it great fun. They carefully read the directions, laid
out the pieces, counted the brackets, nails and screws and assembled it.
Every once in a while they let me hold or pick up a piece and hand it to
them. I could also supply them with tack hammers, screw drivers, and containers
to hold the little pieces. I kept looking around them to watch a football
playoff game that was in progress and I would update them on the game. They
didn't seem interested. They just talked about doors, hinges, brackets and
nails. In just 2 or 3 hours the project was completed successfully, the
TV placed in it and it looks great.
I have started mentioning a curio cabinet that I would like to have. That may take more that a pot roast dinner!
