My dad, Harry Clark Smith, was grain elevator manager in Minburn (where I was born and graduated from high school in 1939), then moved to Rippey where he was grain elevator manager as well as Mayor of Rippey (and Supt. of Schools Cale Ransom allowed me to take a post-grad class at Rippey High in 1940 because I couldn’t afford college – he then drove me to Cedar Falls and got me enrolled at Iowa State Teachers, or otherwise I might still be in Rippey instead of at my present address, Greenwich Village in New York City.
The business education classes at Rippey taught by Fred Meyer certainly prepared me – Who’s Who in Finance and Business has listed me, something Mr. Meyer did not know until we telephoned recently. Also, I’ve succeeded in quite a few areas, most recently founding Philosopedia.org For a photo and biographical details, click

Friends are arranging a festschrift for me for my 85th birthday, a collection of how we met and memories, both good and bad. Paul Senter sent a letter that is included, about how we almost got hit by a Piper Cub we saw crash at the Iowa State Fair. To see photos of Paul and me and of Mayor Harry C. Smith in Rippey, click below, and at the top of that page click 1930s and then 1940s.
My congratulations to FOR for its inspiring website!
