Walter William "Bill" Squires, 70, went home to
be with Jesus on Saturday October 9, 2005 while camping in his motorhome
at Saylorville Lake.
Bill was born on October 9, 1935 in Cooper, the son of Sherman and Maxine
Squires. He worked with his uncles after graduating from high school. He
then worked at United Foods in Jefferson for five years. He and his wife,
Janice, moved to Perry and Bill started working for Fareway Stores, Inc.
where he was employed for 31 years, retiring in 1995. He and his wife traveled
the world and visited 23 countries and all 50 states.
He loved live, his family and enjoyed a large network of extended family
and friends. He participated in sports and was once a semi-pro baseball
pitcher. He enjoyed fising, Model A's, and camping around the country. He
delighted in saying he was from Cooper and claimed to be in the top ten
of his class. There were seven in his class. Bill and Jan wintered in the
Palm Springs, Cal. area for the last nine years. He loved people and people
loved him.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 49 years, Janice; his daughter, Lori
Squires of Urbandale; his son Randy (Debra) Squires of Colo; 3 sisters-in-law,
Barbara Denman of Urbandale, Marilyn Hagemeyer of California, and Ruth Burk
of Colorado; two granddaughters, Kayla McBurney of Osceola and Stacey Stoecker
of West Des Moines; four great-grandchildren, Samantha, Sierra, and Austin
Pennick, and Jessica Negrete; his uncle and aunt, Norman and Helen Ure of
Rippey; his aunt, Doris Birt of Spencer; his aunt, Florence Ure; and his
uncle Robert Vickery of Roswell, GA.
