Rodney M. Metzler, 68 of Perry died at University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City on Tuesday, Dec, 23, 2003. A celebration of his life was held at the Metzler home in Perry on Saturday, January 3, 2004. Murdock Funeral Home in Perry was in charge of arrangements.
Rodney was born in Des Moines on May 10, 1935 to Ronald and Ruby Underwood Marshall. He had lived most of his life in Perry and was married to Connie Wright.
Rodney was employed as a painter at Woodward State Hospital-School for many years.
He was a member of the Boone Hunting and Fishing Club, the Perry Moose Lodge and the Capitol City Moose Lodge in Ankeny.
Preceding Rodney in death were his father and a stepbrother.
Survivors include his mother, Ruby Metzler of Rippey; his wife, Connie; four stepsons, Darrell Shield of Ames; Mike Hay of Wisconsin; Adam Hay of Perry and Jeff Hay of Guthrie Center; a sister, Dayle Brown of Oklahoma; 13 grandchildren; and a great grandchild.
