Terry Dennis Drake
56, died at his home near Perry Thursday, January 1, 2004.
The Rev. Dr. Richard King, First Presbyterian Church, Marshalltown officiated
at services at 10 a.m. Tuesday January 6 at Hastings Funeral Home in Perry
with interment in the Rippey Cemetery.
Military rites were conducted by Floyd Brown American Legion Post 11 and
VFW Post 9599, both of Jefferson, and Kinkead Martin American Legion Post
583 of Rippey.
Son of Lavern and Alberta Peddicord Drake, Terry was born June 1, 1947 in
Perry. He graduated from East Greene High School in Grand Junction in 1965.
Terry was united in marriage to Jolene Hillman German on October 1, 1966.
After serving in Vietnam, he married Julie Gross December 17, 1977 at the
United Methodist Church in Rippey.
Terry coached junior high softball for five years, and he also coached his
wife's women's softball team and his grandson, Alex's little league team.
Terry and Julie also ran the Grand Junction Coed Labor Day Softball Tournament
23 of the 24 years of its existence.
Terry was on the committee of the Iowa Amputee Tournament, and also was
a member of the DU Golf Tournament, VFW Post 9599, Floyd Brown American
Legion Post 11, Jefferson Elks Lodge and Disabled American Veterans.
Terry operated Drake Repair and Woodworking at his home.
Preceding him in death were his parents, a granddaughter, Katie Jo Gordon
and a nephew, Kent Michael Drake.
Survivors include his wife, Julie; four daughters; Lori Gordon of Grand
Junction, Lana McDonald of Winterset, Jimita Consier of Ogden and Nikki
Porter of Modale, IA; 10 grandchildren; and two brothers; John of Urbandale
and Don of Chandler, AZ.
