And now, the news.......

Tony and Wendy Burkett, Josie and Addie of Lawrence, KS. were weekend guests with family members in the Rippey/Grand Junction area.    They attended a funeral of a co-worker of Tony's at Pella.

 Iva Jo and Eugene Muir spent the weekend in the home of their son, Steve and Trudy Muir in Wayne, NB.   They attended the graduation ceremony of their granddaughter, Molly Muir as she received Masters Degree in Education Curriculum and Instruction.  Molly teaches Spanish and is an assistant drama coach at Freemont, NB.   During the weekend they all attended a musical that Molly had helped to direct. 

Velda DeMoss and Jean Borgeson went to Ames on Monday for  Velda's annual eye exam and ended up in Story City where they stopped at the Outlet Mall and visited Darlene and Larry Johnson in their new town house in Story City.

The Ladies Aid of the Rippey United Methodist Church held their guest day on Thursday, May 1st.   The tables were decorated in spring decor, complete with May Basket favors.   Muffins, quick breads, coffee cake and egg muffins were served along with coffee and juice.    Including the hosts there were 95 attending.   The program was "Baskets"  Starting with a devotion about baskets and ending with silliness,17 baskets were shown by  models dressed to display their basket.   Guests were able to singing along with various musical selections and poems and stories were told about some of the baskets.  Midge Vannatta accompanied all of the musical selections.   The appearance of the  egg basket and a rubber chicken caused "The Chicken Dance" to be a part of the program.  Guests were treated to solos by Mrs. Noah (Jean Borgeson) whose cleaning basket had the task of cleaning the ark, and also the song, Over the Rainbow, by Dorothy (Brenda Roberts) .  The program ended on a serious note with Pastor Deb Parkison singing, There is a Savior, and the trio of Mary Hick, Brenda Roberts and Jean Borgeson singing, Find Us Faithful.   To close guests and the hosts joined hands for the singing of God Be With You Till We Meet Again. 

The Rippey High School Alumni Party will be held on Saturday, May 24th at the Rippey United Methodist Church.    From 4-6 pm Alumni are invited to an open house at the Rippey Library to view both the library and the Rippey High School class pictures that are on display.   Hopefully by that date all classes of RHS will be represented on the wall of the community room.   Also at that time the Alumni are invited to tour the new Peoples Bank in Rippey.  Assistant Vice President, Melissa Berry,  will be on hand to show those interested the new addition to Rippey's main street.   Many of the alumni from out of state have expressed an interest in seeing the building.     At 6 pm a supper will be served at the Rippey UMC with valet parking available.   Kevin and Mary Hick are heading up the meal planning and serving.   At this writing, 75 reservations have been made.   It is necessary to make your reservation before May 19.    Proceeds from this meal will be used by the church to make the church bath rooms handicapped accessible.   Payment for the supper may be made at the door on that evening. 

The program will start at 7:30 pm.   The Class of 1958 is the 50 year class.   They are planning a reunion on Friday evening as well as the Saturday gathering.   The Class of 1953 have also planned  a reunion and at least five members of the 70 year class (1938) also plan to attend. 

Dale and Connie Neese were recent visitors in the home of their daughter, Barb and David Ovenshire in Palo.  They attended a performance of the Children's Discovery Series in Cedar Rapids which their grand daughter, Bailey Ovenshire is  a member of the chorus.   As the program "Painting Through Music" was presented, abstract painter, John Paul Schafer, performed a live painting. 

Several from Rippey attended the Greene County Historical meeting held in Churdan on Friday, May 2.  Ron Tolliver of Churdan presented an interesting program about the civil war and especially talked about the involvement of Greene County in the war.   Several of those attending were descendants of those who fought in the Civil War.
