The Main Street of the City of Rippey will soon be changing with the razing of several buildings beginning with the former Rippey First National Bank Building, east through the former Brost Café.
This photograph is a post card, with an illegible date, but in looking closely there are two buildings beyond the current Brubaker home, so it must have been prior to Highway 141 being built. According to Wikipedia the road was built from Grand Junction to Perry in 1941.
The "History of Rippey" indicates the Railroad came to Rippey and the town was laid out in 1870.
By looking carefully you will note a barber pole in front of the former Rippey First National Bank and two gentlemen having a conversation. There may be a lamp in front of the building in the right of the photo, in front of the white building. The caption printed on the post card reads,"12 Main St. Looking East, Rippey, Iowa".
The note on the reverse side of the picture postcard was written by Darrel and Mrs. Ingram to Mr. Tage Sable of Canora S. Dakota.
"We received your package all O.K. and many thanks for same. Mr. Ingram is away making hay he will be writing you soon. We are having lots of rain here. Congratulation. Darrel and Mrs. Ingram". It was delivered with a one cent stamp.
